How it works

How a set works

1

Choose a set

Start from 9 curated sets across Focus, Energy, Calm and Sleep, or build your own from any frequency, tone and breathing pattern.

2

Press play

The tone is synthesised live on your iPhone. Binaural beats are best with headphones, and every set keeps playing with the screen locked.

3

Breathe along

Many sets open with a guided breathing lead-in. Follow the circle on screen, then let the tone carry the rest of the timer.

Binaural beats

A slightly different tone in each ear, so the beat forms in your own hearing. Best with headphones. This is how every brainwave frequency plays.

Pure tones

One steady pitch, softened with slow vibrato so it stays easy to listen to. This is how the traditional tones play on their own.

A tone carrying a beat

In the builder, any traditional tone can become the carrier for a brainwave beat, like a 528 Hz carrier under a 10 Hz alpha beat.

What you get

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a "set" in NeuroSet?
A set is a timed audio session that combines a frequency and/or a guided breathing pattern, aimed at a mood: Focus, Energy, Calm or Sleep. Some sets are tone-only, some are breathing-only, and the flagship ones open with a few minutes of guided breathing before the tone carries the rest. You can play the 9 curated sets or build your own. A fifth shelf, Restore, holds the traditional tones: it is a set of ingredients rather than a time of day, so it has no curated sets of its own.
What are binaural beats?
A way of presenting a slow rhythm inside an audible tone. A binaural beat plays a slightly different pitch in each ear (for example 200 Hz and 210 Hz), and your hearing system perceives the 10 Hz difference as a gentle wobble. The beat has no acoustic existence of its own: it is inferred by your auditory system rather than played. NeuroSet synthesises every beat live on your iPhone, so any frequency and any duration is available without downloads.
Do I need headphones?
Headphones give binaural beats their full effect, because each ear needs its own tone. Played on a speaker, the two tones still interact audibly in the air, so it works, just more gently. Pure tones, including all the traditional tones, sound the same everywhere. The app shows a small note when a set benefits from headphones, and never switches modes behind your back.
How does this actually work?
A 2019 meta-analysis of 22 binaural-beat studies found a moderate overall effect on cognition and anxiety, and a 2023 Stanford trial found five minutes a day of cyclic sighing improved mood more than mindfulness meditation.
What are solfeggio frequencies?
A family of tones popular in sound practice. NeuroSet ships the full ladder of nine, from 174 Hz up to 963 Hz, alongside 432 Hz "natural tuning". They are audible pitches rather than brainwave rhythms, and six of them carry a conventional chakra name. Plenty of folklore surrounds these pitches, and we describe it as folklore: NeuroSet names the tradition and reports what it holds, never claims an outcome in its own voice, and lets you listen for yourself. Any tone can also be played as a carrier under a brainwave beat.
Can I use NeuroSet for sleep?
Yes. Sleep sets run slow, down to a 0.4 Hz epsilon beat, and keep playing with the screen locked. The free Wind Down Breathing set opens with long exhales and runs up to 60 minutes. Pro unlocks sets up to 12 hours, designed to play through the night.
What does NeuroSet cost?
The free tier is a real product, not a demo: unlimited sets every day, up to 60 minutes each, with a curated set for each of Focus, Energy, Calm and Sleep and six free frequencies and tones to build with. Pro unlocks the full library, overnight-length sets and unlimited custom sets, on a monthly or yearly plan that starts with a 7-day free trial. Payment is charged to your Apple ID and subscriptions can be cancelled any time in your account settings.
Can I build my own sets?
Yes. The builder lets you pick a mood, a frequency or tone, a breathing pattern and a duration, with a 10-second preview before you save. Your first custom set is free; Pro makes them unlimited and adds tone-as-carrier combinations, like a 528 Hz carrier under a 10 Hz alpha beat.
How is my data stored?
The app is local-first. Your sets, history and settings live on your device, with optional iCloud sync you control, and we don’t track anything. Signing in is optional and is never required to buy or use Pro: an account exists only so a subscription follows you across devices, and the only thing it puts on our servers is your email address and what you are entitled to.
Is NeuroSet a medical device?
No. NeuroSet is a wellness app, not a medical device or treatment, and it makes no claims to diagnose or treat anything. Keep the volume comfortable, especially on long sets. Rhythmic audio can provoke seizures in a small number of people with epilepsy, so check with your doctor if that applies to you. And don’t play sets designed to make you drowsy while driving or operating machinery.
